We don’t just grow seaweed - we create jobs too!

Part of our mission here at Câr-Y-Môr is to create permanent, year-round jobs in our coastal community, which traditionally relies on the seasonal tourist industry. 

We employed our first paid member of staff back in April last year to focus on the seafood processing aspect of our community business. In an 18-month project, backed with £23,500 of funding from the European Regional Development Fund through the Welsh Government, we aimed to create at least 2 full-time permanent roles by the end of September 2022. 

Managed by the WCVA, the project is all about helping to deliver sustainable economic growth and jobs in our community. 

We are pleased to confirm that not only did we achieve the 2 permanent jobs, but we also grew our team to 12 members of paid staff, working across seafood processing, seaweed processing, our ocean farm and the community. 

Without this initial support, we would not have had the confidence to create paid permanent jobs so early in our Community Benefit Society’s journey.
