Seaweed Fertiliser: Your Questions Answered

What does Seaweed Fertiliser do?

Seaweed fertiliser is used as a bio-stimulant to promote plant growth and keep plants healthy thanks to its wide array of micronutrients and plant growth hormones. This gives plants access to nutrients that they would otherwise struggle to obtain in winter months or in poor soils. Micronutrients give plants the components they need to develop and grow, metabolise, and reproduce. Not only this, but plant growth hormones also help to give plants resistance against environmental pressures such as drought, flooding, salinity, and pests and disease.

Soil health is a huge factor in growing plants, and the microbes that live in the soil are of particular importance. The nutrients present in seaweed fertiliser are great for soil microbes and consequently prevent the environmental issues typically associated with fertiliser such as leaching, while simultaneously improving the consistency of the soil due to the presence of alginate.

Where should I use Seaweed Fertiliser?

Our Seaweed Concentrate should be diluted with water at a ratio of 1:50 and can be poured onto the soil surrounding the plants or our Seaweed Foliar Spray can be sprayed directly onto the leaves. Make sure to spray sparingly to avoid damaging your plant – a little goes a long way.

Why should I use Seaweed Fertiliser?

Seaweed fertilisers can greatly improve soil and plant health and growth, providing a fantastic alternative to conventional synthetic fertilisers. There are also no negative environmental impacts associated with the production and use of seaweed fertilisers. The seaweed is grown sustainably on our Ocean farms in the Ramsey Sound. The use of seaweed fertilisers does not cause pollution such as eutrophication and leaching caused by high concentrations of a select few nutrients found in traditional fertilisers.

How often should I use seaweed on plants?

Depending on the plant, our diluted Seaweed Concentrate can be added every time you water your plants and Foliar Spray can be sparingly sprayed directly onto the leaves once a week.

Seaweed fertiliser can be especially useful in peak growing season and when germinating seeds or repotting when root growth is takes place. However, Soil and plants become more dormant during winter months and so the application of fertiliser can be cut right back to once a month if at all.
